The first Labour Conference held under the auspices of the Lengue

of Nations at Genoa in June of this year unanimously passed the follow-

ing resolutions:»

"The International Seamen's Conference recognising the importance

of taking active international measures for the prevention and treat-

ment of venerent di stases in the merdantile marine, desires to urge

upon the Health 8 ection of the League of Nations the need for immedi-

ate attention to this subject.

They would recommend for special consideration;-

(1)

The provision of adequate facilities for the prevention and

treatment of venereal di sense at all the principal ports.

(2) The inclusion of venereal diseases among the conditions for

which free drugs and treatment are provided for members

of the mercantile marine.

The dissemination of appropriate information on the subject

to seafarers, and especially to those at training estab-

11 shmen ta.

The prevision of adequate facilities for recreation at all

large ports under the administration of a joint organisa

tion representative of owners and seafarers.

They desire in addition to call the special attention of the In-

ternational Labour Organisation to the importance of No. 4 about facil

ties for recreation."

The British Ministry of Health and the Marine Department of the

Board of Trade are taking steps to carry inte effeat Resolutions 1,2,3

We recommend therefore that special attention should be given to the

requirements of the seafaring population. We would suggest that the

facilities for treatment for seafarere should be contineusly open and

very accessible to the shipping quarter of the town: that arrangement i

should be made for the first official visiting any incoming ships to

take with him
